Privacy Policy

(short version: your data stays yours)

Who we are

Lectio is a desktop application developed by Simone Giammusso. If you have any privacy-related questions, you can write to us at simone.giammusso@gmail.com.

How Lectio works

Lectio is built with a local-first approach. That means:

  • Audio recordings stay on your computer. The audio files you record or upload are never sent to external servers. They remain stored locally on your computer, in the folder you choose.
  • Transcription happens locally. Lectio uses Whisper, an open-source model that runs directly on your computer. No audio is transmitted over the internet for transcription.
  • Your data (courses, lectures, summaries, chat) is stored in a local database on your computer. We do not have access to that data.

When data leaves your computer

Your data leaves your computer only when you use AI features, and only after an explicit action from you:

1. Summary generation (Gemini API)

When you ask Lectio to generate a summary or you ask a question in the AI chat, the transcript text is sent to Google Gemini APIs for processing.

This happens only after your explicit confirmation. Lectio always asks for permission before sending any data.

Important: once the text is sent to Google Gemini, the processing of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and the Gemini API Terms of Service. We do not control how Google handles that data.

What we do NOT do

  • We do not collect your personal data
  • We do not run servers that store your recordings or transcripts
  • We do not sell data to anyone
  • We do not do invasive tracking
  • We do not have access to the content of your lectures

Analytics

Lectio uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as how often the app is opened and which features are used. This data is aggregated and anonymous. It does not include the content of your lectures, recordings, or transcripts. It is used only to understand how to improve the app.

The processing of this analytics data is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.

Your rights

Since your data lives on your computer, you already have full control. You can delete any recording, transcript, or summary at any time, directly from the app or by removing the files from the Lectio folder.

If you uninstall Lectio, all local data is removed with the app.

TL;DR

Your recordings and transcripts stay on your computer. When you use AI summaries, the text goes to Google Gemini, where their privacy policy applies. We do not see anything and we do not store anything.
